Back to School Transition: Classroom Community at Little Sunshine Center

This week, students and families across the city participated in the first full week back at school. Nearly 1 million NYC public school students returned on Thursday, September 4th, and among them, many preschoolers stepped into a classroom for the very first time!

At our 3-K location, we welcomed a wonderful mix of returning and brand-new students. At Little Sunshine Center 2, children transitioned or "moved up" into classrooms designed to support their continued growth along their learning and developmental journeys.

While parents have received plenty of tips to help their children adjust to the new school environment, we are now focused on adapting those transitions into our little ones’ daily routines throughout the month.

To support this adjustment, we’re inviting students to explore and celebrate the idea of Classroom Community.

What is Classroom Community?

This month, we’re focusing on building a strong classroom community! Over the next six weeks, we’ll explore essential social, emotional, and classroom concepts to help our young learners feel safe, confident, and connected.

We’ll be learning each other’s names, discovering what it means to be part of a classroom, exploring the different areas within our space, and meeting the important helpers in our school community.

Each week, we're exploring big questions like:

  • What will I learn and do at school?

  • What names do we need to know?

  • What should I do if I feel sad or scared at school?

  • What do I bring to my classroom community?

  • Who are my friends, and how do we feel?

  • What are our rules?

...and so much more!

Follow us on Instagram, TikTok, or Facebook to watch the learning unfold all month long!
